As the election period nears, many businesses have lost up to Sh700 billion.
According to the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (Kepsa) should the outcome of the elections end up the wrong way the economy will suffer.
Private businesses employ 1.8 million Kenyans making up 71 percent of formal employment.
“The harsh political climate has serious implications as medium, small and micro-enterprises employees about 85 per cent of Kenya’s labour force," Kepsa’s trustee Patrick Obath said."The education sector has also had its calendar disrupted and national examinations could suffer if the current political situation is not managed properly,” he said.
Kepsa also highlighted how the wholesale and retail sector has been directly affected citing how street demonstrations had forced them to close shops.
Matatu businesses in Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay, Migori, Mombasa and Nairobi have also been disrupted as a result of political demos.
