Mandera Senator Billow Kerrow's imminent exit from the Kenyan political scene has elicited mixed reactions among the political class in the country.
Kerrow has publicly announced that he won't be seeking re-election in the Mandera senatorial seat, following a verdict by the Garre Council of Elders that all current elected leaders should surrender their seats for a new crop of leaders in next year’s general election.
Speaking on Monday during a morning TV show, Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar expressed his displeasure with the council's verdict, saying Kerrow has been an astute politician whose thoughtful and intelligent input will be missed in the senate.
"The one fundamental issue that disheartens me is Billow Kerrow missing out in the space of politics. He is one of the politicians that I have come across in the senate who is meticulous. He has clarity of thought, his competence and professionalism is above par," said Omar.
"I do not think there is any legislator today from North Eastern Kenya who beats Billow Kerrow," he added.
