Uasin Gishu County Tourism CeC Philip Melly has promised an upgrade of Kesses Dam which will include bringing in wildlife.

Speaking to Kesses residents on Sunday during celebrations to mark World Tourism Day, Melly said the upgrade is coming after several years of waiting to see improvement at the dam.

“We will erect fences and barriers around this dam to protect it from pollution and preserve its environment. We also want to clean it up but we will have to consult with residents who own farms around this place to ensure they are well catered for,” said Melly.

He added, “We are also working with the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to expand the dam and soon we will bring in wild animals that tourists can also come to watch.”

At the same time, Melly congratulated participants who took part in swimming and boat rowing competitions. He challenged local leaders to engage the county government for bigger events planning.

“Next time we need more people to register in such competitions to make it more competitive. We also need to increase the prizes awarded to winners in various categories,” he added.

Melly also urged residents to use such occasions to venture into small businesses that provide them income rather than just attending and cheering participants.
