According to principal Mr Peter Ndubi, the students were in class at around 8:20pm when they were informed by a colleague who had gone to respond to a call of nature of the dormitory being on fire.

The cause of the fire had not been established by the time of going to press.

The KESSHA secretary Nyamira branch David Kiage who visited the school together with principals from Nyamira North sub-county, asked the government to deploy police officers to schools noting that the trend of school fires especially in Gusii counties was shocking.

"We are now even getting questions on what kind of security we have in schools. I request the government to deploy at least two police officers to complement those provided by schools to patrol especially during the night," said Kiage.

He further noted that if the trend continues, it might affect the future of Gusii youths especially when hunting for jobs.

"How can our children pass the integrity test? This is not good for their CVs. Let the community look beyond today," added Kiage.
