Hearing for an election petition challenging Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter's win during the August 8 general elections begun on Tuesday at the Eldoret High Court before Justice George Kanyi Kimondo.
Petitioner in the case Bernard Kibor Kitur took to the stand to testify where he told the court how Keter campaigned even after the official campaign period had lapsed.
Kitur who also participated in the elections as an independent candidate claimed Keter only won because of the illegal campaigns he conducted on 6th and 7th of August 2017, hours before the election day.
"Keter never campaigned after winning the Jubilee party nominations and only came back to the campaign trail on 4th of August where he continued with the campaigns up to the eve of the elections day," Kitur told the court during cross-examination by his lawyer Amos Magut.
"The ground had really shifted and I believe had he not campaigned past the official period I would be the MP today since all the areas he campaigned on 6th and 7th he had 80% of the cast votes against my 19%," he added.
Kitur also accused the Jubilee MP of voter bribery as well as questioning the credibility of the final results announced by the IEBC due to what he termed as discrepancies in results forms.
IEBC declared Keter winner of the Parliamentary election after garnering 28,923 votes against the petitioner's 13,872 votes.
The MP who will be presenting two witnesses to defend his win will testify on Wednesday.
