As the lifestyle audit spires hot debate among politicians, the Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter has strongly rubbished the remarks by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen that the audit targets certain individuals.
Addressing the press on Tuesday, the embattled lawmaker said that the audit is purely unpolitical and there is no person who is targeted.
He also added that the lifestyle audit is not threatening any community because the corruption culprits steal for themselves.
“There is nothing political about the lifestyle audit. Anybody who is panicking, anybody thinking that some community is being fought, there is no community that is under threat. When people steal and loot they do so on behalf of themselves. Let them face the music. There is no individual that is being targeted,” said Keter.
His comments are contrary to Murkomen’s stand on the lifestyle audit after he said that the audit is targeting individuals and it has no legal framework.
“Unless we have a legally backed process, we will not go far if we target individuals in the lifestyle audit. I have a problem with lifestyle audit because it is not anchored in law and is bound to be abused,” Murkomen said during Citizen TV interview on Sunday.
