The daughter of the later Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo, Kethi Kilonzo has broken her silence after weighing in on the proposed controversial election amendments being pushed by President Uhuru Kenyatta ahead of the repeat elections. In an opinion piece published on Standard, Kethi compared the election amendments to an attempt to change the rules of the game at halftime.

She questioned whether the current parliament has the mandate to change the laws so that each of the parties involved in the election presents two candidates for the nation’s top seat ahead of October 26th following the nullification of President Uhuru Kenyatta ‘s win.

“Can Parliament change the elections laws to allow more than the two presidential candidates on October 26? She posed, as quoted by the local daily.

Kethi also said that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announced the election results for the presidential race even before receiving forms from all the constituencies. She also said that the move by the commission to open its servers raises eyebrows as we go to another election.

“By the time IEBC declared the presidential winner on August 10 it had not received over 10,000 electronic copies of Forms 34A. This, coupled with the refusal to open up its servers for scrutiny, was pointed out by the Supreme Court to be among its biggest failures,” she added.
