The daughter of the late Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo, Kethi’s forgery case is set to proceed to full hearing. The new development comes after the lawyer and Director of Public Prosecutions failed to settle the issue out of court.
Kethi was on September 2013 charged for allegedly stealing Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) acknowledgment slip. According to the prosecution, the incident occurred between November 19, 2012, and June 27, 2013. The prominent lawyer has been accused alongside Godfrey Ninito Lemiso over forgery of the slip.
In her defense, Kethi used the Sh5 slip as evidence that she had been registered lawfully as one of the voters at the Ngong Forest Primary School in Nairobi County.
She has also been accused of handling stolen property and presenting to the national elections agency false documents. It is alleged that Kethi had forged the documents she presented to IEBC Returning Officer Salad Boru in Wote, Makueni County as she sought to replace her late father in the by-election.
“My Lord, my instructions are that this matter continues to a full hearing,” said prosecutor Mungai Warui on Tuesday in court.
Kethi’s brother Mutula Kilonzo Junior later contested and won the seat.
