A day after Kisii County governor James Ongwae slammed a section of residents who have been boycotting remitting tax in protest of alleged poor services from the county government, a number of Keumbu residents have yet again hit on the county boss.

Ongwae on Saturday during celebrations of Jamhuri Day said the county was unable to effectively deliver on its mandate without residents being tax compliant as provided in the law.

However, Keumbu residents who spoke on Sunday in an interview with the writer said the governor had failed to deliver on the taxes which have been collected and said continued remitting of taxes without concrete transformation at the grassroots was unacceptable.

“What the governor is not revealing is that many people especially business people have been paying taxes but little is done to transform infrastructure in their area of work. Some of can therefore want real progress with the little we have been giving out before we resume paying the taxes,” said Alfayo Mogambi, on their behalf.

According to them, the county government was unable to explain the poor status of feeder roads in the region hence paralysing their day to day activities.

“For instance, many of people from this region are farmers and therefore depend on their roads to transport their farm produces. But we still cannot enjoy the services despite having been remitting our taxes in time. Therefore, we will boycott till we see our feeder roads improved,” he added.
