Taita Taveta MP Naomi Shaban has resigned from the Jubilee Party. The member of parliament, who been a key Jubilee figure in the coastal region, says she will not defend the her seat, which she has held for 15 years, under the Uhuru Kenyatta-led party. “Due to unavoidable circumstances, I wish to resign from Jubilee Party,” the MP said in a letter to the party secretariat, as quoted by The Standard. “I will no longer be vying for the Taveta constituency seat under the Jubilee Party umbrella,” the letter said. It’s not clear if she will campaign against President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election, which has been backing over the years. “I wish Jubilee Party all the best in the upcoming election,” she added, in a letter dated April 8 this year. Ms Shaban has been very influential in converting Opposition MPs into Jubilee supporters.
