Eastleigh hawkers have accused owners of malls in the locality over what they referred to as grabbing of public land that was supposed to be allocated to them by the county government.
They lamented the way they are forbidden from using the streets yet the mall owners were the ones responsible for their plight.
Through their Eastleigh Hawkers Association, the traders said that the key malls in Eastleigh were built on public land, sewer lines and service lanes, something that left them with no space for their trade.
The association’s chair, Jeff Oteba further said that they, therefore, had no space to operate from.
"We have nowhere to operate from except in front of the malls," Oteba said.
"It is not our wish but the problem has been created by City Hall and the tycoons," continued Oteba.
Recently, mall owners in Eastleigh closed their shops in protest. They said they would not open them until the county government clears the hawkers off their entrances.
