The government was forced to stop implementation of key development projects across the country so as to enable it get sufficient funds for the repeat Presidential election.
Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich said a decision by the Supreme Court to order for a fresh election caught them unawares.
Speaking to the press at the University of Eldoret, on Friday, Rotich said they had to source for funds from various development projects."We are now forced to stop some of our projects to fund the repeat elections," noted the CS.
"It was hard to get the funds as we never planned for this but we had to do it since elections must be held," he added.
The Cabinet recently approved that Sh10 billion be allocated to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for the October 26 repeat Presidential election.
IEBC had requested for Sh12 billion.
