Did you know that Presidents have a lot of work than people imagine? Well, there is a lot required of the President. A Kenyan president has several duties he has to undertake. Most people don’t know any of the duties of a President. Here are some duties President Uhuru Kenyatta:
1. He is the Head of State and Head of Government of the Republic of Kenya.
2. He is the Commander-in-Chief who orders for war and state emergency upon approval by the - National Assembly and Cabinet respectively.
3. Head of Government - will yield executive authority and will coordinate and supervise all major sections of the executive branch.
5. He nominates, appoints with prior approval of the national assembly, and dismiss Cabinet Secretaries.
6. He presides over Cabinet meetings.
7. He assents bills into law or refer them back to parliament for further review.
8. He nominates, and after approval of Parliament, appoint a Chief Justice (The President will however need to consult with the PM on this appointment during the Transitional period).
9. He nominates, and after approval of Parliament, appoint an Attorney General
10. He nominates, and after approval of Parliament, appoint a Director of Public Prosecution.
11. He appoints Judges to the Superior Court recommended to him/her by an independent Judiciary Service Commission.
12. He appoints Ambassadors/High Commissioners to Kenyan embassies abroad.
