[Eldas MP Adan Keynan in a past event. He has rebuked secession calls and warned leaders fronting the same.] (Thestar)Eldas MP Adan Keynan has asked Kenyans to shun politicians and individuals fronting for secession.
The MP says that secession debate is dangerous for the country’s unity and development.
According to the MP, there is no room for secession and that those calling for separation are out to fulfill their political agendas.
In an interview with the Standard, Keynan appealed to Kenyans not to be swayed by people calling for secession and instead remain united.
Keynan said that the country has come from far and that it is malicious for some people to start fronting for separation.
He said that while there could be marginalization of some communities in the country, secession is not an option or the solution.
The MP said that other mechanisms to tackle marginalization should be sought adding that secession will create more harm than good.
“It could be true that some communities have been marginalized since independence but I don’t think that secession is not the answer,” he said as quoted by the Standard.
Economist David Ndii, who is associated with the National Super Alliance (NASA) is fronting for secession through an online petition.
The economist is seeking one million signatures to have the country split into two states.
Ndii claims that some communities have been marginalized on matters national politics.
The economist secession calls have elicited mixed reactions among Kenyans and politicians.
Last week, the government slammed Ndii and others fronting for the country are split.
Government spokesperson Erick Kiraithe told those pushing for session to re-locate the country if not comfortable and leave Kenyans alone.
