Eldas MP elect Adan Keynan has urged North Eastern elected governors to prioritize security, education and trade in their development manifestos.
The MP says that the Northern region is grappling with insecurity, poor standards of education and low economic growth.
Addressing supporters in Wajir town on Saturday, Keynan said that insecurity characterized by terrorism and border conflicts has crippled the economic status of the region for many years.
He said that despite the various measures being put in place by the national government to combat terrorism, the vice is still a threat to development.
He said that North Eastern residents are always living in fear of attacks from terror militia groups and other criminal insurgents.
“I want to urge Northern Eastern governors who were elected in the recently concluded general election to get down to work and address the serious issues facing locals,” he said as quoted by the Daily Nation.
The MP said that the region’s education standards are pathetic despite the free primary and subsidized secondary education.
Keynan noted that enrolment to schools is still a problem with many families preferring their children to do pastoralist work and other manual works.
He said that the region’s development agenda can only be guaranteed if education status is improved.
The MP asked elected governors and other leaders to work together and revive the regions education sector.
Keynan also appealed to the governors to create friendly ties with local and foreign investors.
He asked the county bosses to give incentives to potential investors saying the move will help the region actualize its development agenda.
The MP also asked all elected leaders to push for job creation and unite residents.
