Global fast food chain Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) on Saturday opened a new outlet in Westside Mall, Nakuru town.
The new outlet brings to twelve the number of KFC outlets in the country, and is the first opened outside Nairobi since the fast food giant entered the Kenyan market in 2011.
Nakuru County Chief Officer in charge of Trade, Industrialization, Investments and Tourism Ms Edith Kimani presided the launch.
In addition to the Westside branch, KFC plans to open four more branches in Nakuru town by 2020.
Billed as the second largest restaurant chain in sales after McDonald's, KFC was founded by American entrepreneur Harland Sanders, who began selling fried chicken from his roadside restaurant in Corbin, Kentucky, during the Great Depression.
As at 2015, KFC was running a franchise model in more 19,000 locations in 123 countries and locations globally.
The company retails a range of fast foods that includes fried chicken, chicken sandwiches, wraps, French Fries, soft drinks, salads and deserts.
Besides the Nakuru restaurant, KFC was set to open other branches in Kisumu and Nanyuki towns Monday.
