The government of Kenya has banned the Blue Whale Challenge, an online game that requires a winner to commit suicide at the last stage of it.

The ban follows reports released, Monday, saying a teenager aged 16, committed suicide in Kamukunji, Nairobi, after playing the online game.

The form two student at JG Kiereini Secondary School in Kiambu county identified as Jamie Njenga, had on Thursday played the game.

“We have also written to Google and asked them to be on high alert of the game on You Tube and other platforms managed by them,” Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) boss Ezekiel Mutua said in a statement.

“We have also ordered the withdrawal of the game from all the social media sites in Kenya and asked all the internet service providers to ensure it is not accessible in Kenya,” he added.

Reports indicate so far the game has claimed more than 100 lives of teenagers across the world.
