The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) has raised concern over rising cases of misuse of social media, to spread hate messages.

Speaking during a KFCB public sensitisation programme at Nyakach Girls High School in Kisumu County, the Board's Chief Executive Officer Dr Ezekiel Mutua urged the public to be careful with the content they consume online.

He said hate speech was among classifiable elements considered by KFCB, to rate film and broadcast content as provided by the Board's Classification Guidelines.

Dr Mutua also called on parents to closely monitor the content being accessed by children online to protect the young people from being exposed to unsuitable content.

The sensitisation exercise was attended by close to 2,000 participants, among them teachers, students and parents.

The Kasangas, Man-Ingwe, Creative Generations comedians and Sammy Ngare were among the artists who graced the event.

The school's BOM Chairman Ambrose Weda was also present.
