A Kenya Forest Service (KFS) officer and his friends have been hospitalised in Embu over food poisoning.

They were on Saturday rushed to St Michael Nursing Home, Runyenjes, in critical condition after eating ugali and vegetables.

One of the victims Joseph Njagi said he and his other two friends were visiting the officer where they took the meal.

He said that after eating, they began vomiting, and experienced fever and weakness in their bodies.

According to Vanessa Kina, medical tests revealed that the food was toxic.

She said she began observing the symptoms much later before she collapsed at the hospital's waiting bay.

Dr Stephen Maina said that the patients are now recovering and could be discharged after three days.

He however dispelled rumours that the four had contacted cholera, adding that samples showed that it was food poisoning.
