Kenya Ferry Service (KFS) has suspended two of its senior staff following the breakdown of a vessel that led to disruption of services at the Likoni Channel early this week
An operation supervisor and a coxswain were suspended after MV Nyayo broke down on Monday morning.
MV Nyayo is the second biggest vessel at the Likoni channel after the newly arrived MV Jambo.
On Monday, MV Nyayo developed a mechanical problem, when its fuel pipe burst in the middle of the ocean causing panic amongst commuters, who started screaming due to fear.
The mechanical problem was later fixed and the ferry resumed operating
Staff at the channel are now working under pressure after receiving warnings from their bosses
“We have clearly been warned that the supervisor, coxswain and the ramp controller would be sent packing if any problem occurs at the channel. Everyone is working under pressure,” said a senior official at the KFS as quoted by Daily Nation
On Wednesday, two others staff, who are said to be engineers were sent on compulsory off. According to a senior official at the KFS management, the two have been sent on 10 days off each, as a disciplinary action.
In recent weeks, Likoni channel has been hit with several breakdowns of vessels, including the newly acquired MV Jambo, which has stayed under repair for more than 2 weeks now.
