Kenya Forest Service (KFS) has sacked forest officers in charge of Thogoto, Kibiko, Ololua and Ngong road forests for failing to end illegal logging.
Peter Kinyua, KFS Chairman, said the sacked officers have stayed at their work place for over 3 years.
Kinyua said the officers will be replaced immediately to ensure no illegal logging takes place in the forests.
“The new officers to be deployed should work to end illegal logging failure to which they will be sacked. Loggers should be arrested and prosecuted,” said Kinyua.
The chairman noted that illegal cutting of trees and fetching of firewood from forests should also stop.
“Trees should not be destroyed as we watch. Saw millers should keep off forests and those fetching firewood are advised to stop before the law catches up with them,” he stated.
He added that plans are on course to rehabilitate two quarries in Ngong Road Forest Station.
Kinyua was speaking at Thogoto town on Sunday.
