Kenya Ferry Service (KFS) has suspended two senior officials following Thursday’s incident in which only one ferry remained in operation.
KFS Managing Director Bakari Gowa confirmed the suspension of the duo, citing laxity in service delivery.
Operations at the Likoni Channel were on Thursday disrupted for more than four hours after three ferries broke down including MV Harambee that was recently re-launched.
The breakdown of the ferries led to delays and outcry from commuters at the channel.
“We have taken some disciplinary action on some of the senior officers concerned and they have already been sent on suspension and we are still investigating any possible human cause to the challenges we are facing so that we take appropriate action against any of them,” said Mr Gowa, as quoted by the Nation.
He promised to work with other officials to advert a similar incident ahead of Christmas.
“We are going to take a close watch on the operations from now henceforth to ensure this situation does not happen again during this festive season,” he added.
