The workshop that has brought officials from six county governments is aimed at creating a good working relationship between the Kenya Forest Service (KFS), and the county governments in as far as forest preservation and conservation is concerned.

Speaking in the function held on Thursday, KFS Director Emillio Mugo said that better forest conservation practices can only be achieved if the county governments and the State work together.

“We are here together with the Transitional Authority officials and representatives from the county governments to explain the roles the county governments have been given in forest conservation,” said Mugo.

Mugo also talked about the forest fires and appealed to residents to co-ordinate with KFS officials to keep the forests free from fire.

“We have deployed an aircraft in this area to monitor any fire emergencies that may require urgent attention,” he said.

Mugo further urged the residents to be wary of the ongoing dry season when fires are likely to break.
