Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale is confident that the National Super Alliance (NASA) can stand the test of time and take on the ruling Jubilee Party as a united team in the August polls.
With talk rife that the opposition coalition which has brought together Raila Odinga (ODM), Musalia Mudavadi (ANC), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper) and Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetang’ula is about to break up just a few months before election, Khalwale observed three things the four co-principals must do to avoid fall-out.
Firstly, the Ford Kenya deputy party leader said NASA co-principals must ignore pressure from their supporters and remain focused on their goal.
“The leaders should fix their eyes on the prize which is to remove Jubilee regime from power. They should not be held hostage by their supporters who are insisting on the naming of the flag bearer,” said Khalwale on Sunday during a rally in Kisii county.
Secondly, he said all co-principals must treat each other with respect and as equal partners in the coalition to wade off unnecessary tensions in the party.
He said remarks by some Wiper and ANC leaders that their leaders were best suited to be the NASA presidential flagbearer were uncalled for as they threaten the coalition’s unity.
Finally, Khalwale told the NASA leaders not to allow propaganda to split them, saying Jubilee is determined in disintegrating the alliance.
“The principals must remain strong despite many political challenges and several attempts by their opponents to see the alliance break-up. The ruling coalition knows a united opposition will send them home in August. They are very determined to break NASA,” Khalwale added.
