Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale wants the national government to review the Integrated Financial Management System (IFMIS), saying it has become a tool for swindling taxpayer’s money.

Khalwale, while questioning the effectiveness of the system said that its time the government reviewed it to prevent further siphoning of taxpayer’s money.

Speaking on Citizen TV on Thursday, the senator claimed that the system can no longer be trusted in transacting public money.

“The government needs to urgently review the IFMIS and asses its effectiveness to ensure that public money is not lost,” he said during the interview.

The senator accused the Jubilee government of allegedly rushing to implement the IFMIS without properly assessing it, adding that the management of the system should have been tailored for only few people to avoid sharing of passwords .

The senator said that if the IFMIS is not reviewed and its effectiveness tested, then taxpayers’ money is not safe.

The Kakamega senator at the same time asked the National Treasury and other agencies involved in safeguarding public money to put in place strict mechanisms that will cushion the country from corruption.

He said that there are loopholes that need to be sealed both at the national and county governments in order to completely tame graft.
