Outspoken Senator Bonnie Khalawale has sensationally claimed that he was denied entry to the Senate for several hours before the Wednesday’s special sitting.
Speaker Ekwe Ethuro had convened a special session to discuss controversial amendments to the election laws which were passed by National assembly last week.
In his submission before the Senate, Khalwale accused security personnel’s of ‘unfairly’ targeting him due to his solid stand on matters governance.
“Mr. Speaker, I was denied entry in this house for several Hours. I’d like to know whether or not this house has lost independence,” he said.
He added: “We were even forced to leave our vehicles outside parliament, something that has never happened in the history of parliament. We need to know whether Executive has taken over parliament.”
Similar sentiments were echoed by opposition senators Janet Ong’era (Nominated) and George Khaniri (Vihiga), who accused security officers of allegedly harassing them.
