Ex-Kakamega senator Bonny Khalwale has sharply differed with opposition, NASA top economic strategist David Ndii, who has been calling for secession.

For Kenya to restore equity and representation, Ndii said, time had come for certain regions to awarded autonomy due to postcolonial discrimination by subsequent governments.

In a tweet however, Khalwale, a key figure in NASA coalition, supports autonomy of Kenya to eight regions that would have a structure such as that of US.

“I don’t support Ndii’s call for secession but a federation government comprising the former eight provinces might be a better compromise.”

He adds:”Seclusion has been a matter of concern but allowing such regions to be economically interdependent would allow more successes and reconciliation.”

In the recent history of the world, only Sudan and Serbia and Montenegro have had successful secession petition which occasioned formation of world youngest states of South Sudan and Montenegro.

Should Khalwale’s suggestion be taken into consideration, Nairobi will only play a ceremonial role with more powers being delegated to all eight states.
