Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has faulted The Standard newspaper over a story involving businessman Julius Mwale's activities in the past.
Mwale, a renowned businessman is behind a medical and technology mega city project in Kakamega that seeks to also have an airport and power plant in it.
According to Khalwale, the story on Mwale is a 'clear' move by The Standard newspaper to kill the ongoing project.
In a tweet on Monday, Khalwale further called on the newspaper for failing to give stories on 'criminals' who erect buildings in Nairobi and affirmed that he stands by the businessman.
"It is now clear that the @StandardKenya is on mission to kill this investment in Kakamega. How come they never give us runs on the backgrounds of criminals who put up buildings in Nairobi through money laundering? Stop it. We stand by Julius Mwale," he tweeted.
In the article appearing in the Sunday Standard, Mwale allegedly went missing from the Kenya Air Force (KAF) in 1999 just after completing basic training as a ground Radar Technician and only reemerged in 2010.
"It is during this training that he absented himself without leave (AWOL) on May 27, 1999 at 0800hrs. He therefore never qualified nor graduated as a radar technician nor as an aeronautical engineer as earlier claimed,” reiterated KDF spokesman Col David Obonyo, as quoted by the Sunday Standard.
The article further points at Mwale's life while in Kenya and in the United States and 'unearths' how the businessman violated Courtrooms in the US and also failing to pay a Kshs 15 million loan thus putting his guarantor in trouble.
The article also raises queries on the Masters in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University which he allegedly attained in 2003.
