In a tweet published on the Senator's official account on Wednesday, Khalwale criticised the move describing it as "unnecessary sideshows that should not be taken seriously".

"What Atwoli is doing is a sideshow. The focus is on removing Uhuruto and putting Kenya back on track," Khalwale said in a tweet.

"With Mudavadi working with Cord, I can confirm that Mudavadi-Wetangula-Khalwale trio will deliver Baluhya vote 100 percent," he added.

Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula and former Cabinet Minister Musikari Kombo are some of the Luhya leaders who are opposed to Atwoli's plan.

Wetangula, ANC Leader Musalia Mudavadi and former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo are some of the leaders tipped for the highly coveted position of the Luhya community spokesperson.
