Former Kakamega County Senator, Boni Khalwale has shed light on controversial Employment Bill passed by Kiambu County Assembly.
On Thursday, the assembly passed a bill compelling public and private firms in the county to make sure that 70% of their employees were locals of the county.
Khalwale said no one should have sleepless nights about the decision of the assembly.
In a tweet, he reaffirmed that the constitution provides that where the county is in conflict with the National Legislature, the national version will always prevail.
“No one should've sleepless nights about the decision by the Kiambu County Assembly on employment. The constitution provides that where county and National Legislation are in conflict, the national version prevails,” said Khalwale.
Kiambu County Majority Leader, Antony Ikonya, who moved the motion, said it was in line with Article 65 (1) (e) of the County Government Act.
“I note with a lot of concern that Kiambu County has been generous, very generous to people who are from outside this county, to an extent that we do this at the expense of our very own,” said Mr. Ikonya on Thursday.
