Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has rubbished earlier claims of ongoing negotiations on a possible union between Ford-Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula and Deputy President William Ruto.
Addressing mourners in Bunandi village, Funyula constituency in Busia county Saturday, Khalwale alao cautioned the Bungoma Senator against any joint formations with the Deputy President in the future.
Coming shortly after his ejection as the Minority Leader in the Senate, Khalwale noted that Wetangula risks undergoing the same in the hands of Ruto, advising him to instead concentrate on his new Luhya community unity campaign.
He also called upon other Luhya leaders to rally behind the push, only days after a section of lawmakers from the region, under the leadership of Tongaren Member of Parliament Eseli Simiyu met Ruto in his Karen home.
"Our leaders should only meet government representatives on the basis of development. We should not allow the recent humiliation we underwent in the hands of our friends in the opposition to repeat itself," he said.
"We have to now concentrate on unifying our community to give us a bigger bargaining power come 2022. We have to make our vote count in 2022 and prove those who have been overlooking us wrong," he added.
Wetangula and his Amani National Congress (ANC) counterpart Musalia Mudavadi have since broken up with the National Super Alliance (NASA) chief Raila Odinga over Wetangula's unceremonious ejection by Odinga's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) senators.
They have since announced plans to create a joint bloc.
