Ugly scenes marred NASA’s final stop over in Bungoma on Friday as local politics took center stage moments after the coalition's principals had addressing a mammoth crowd.
The team had separated into two before convening in Bungoma Town, situated in Kanduyi constituency in late evening hours.
Trouble started when Kakamega senator Bonny Khalwale endorsed governorship aspirant Wycliffe Wamangati, who happened to have his former class mate at Musingu High School.
However, his pronouncement was met with resistant as supporters of former Kanduyi MP Alfred Khangati heckled the renowned senator leading to a temporary halting of the rally as Raila Odinag watched in disbelief.
Normalcy was brought through the concerted efforts of Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Wetangula and Raila Odinga.
“We are one house in five and these candidates are engaging in friendly battles,” said Odinga as he took the stage again for reconciliation.
He added: “We are going to sit down and find a lasting solution over such rivalry. We may be forced to sacrifice a number of candidates.”
While Khalwale is running against Odinga’s deputy Wycliffe Oparanya, Wamangati and Khangati are battling against incumbent Bungoma governor Ken Lusaka.
