Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale has expressed confidence that the Cord coalition will defeat President Uhuru Kenyatta in the 2017 polls.
Speaking on a breakfast show on Tuesday, Khalwale dismissed the notion that no incumbent president has ever lost a re-election bid saying Uhuru did not have much to show for his first term in office.
He added that Cord leader Raila Odinga in his advanced age could easily trounce Kenyatta.
"I have accompanied Raila in several rallies and I know he is capable of defeating Uhuru," he told Radio Maisha.
He referred to the Nigerian situation where incumbent Goodluck Jonathan lost out to an old Mohammed Buhari in 2015 general elections.
The vocal senator, however, clarified that Cord would conduct nominations to select the coalition's presidential flag bearer to face off with Jubilee.
All the three Cord principals Raila Odinga(ODM) ,Kalonzo Musyoka(Wiper)and Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya)have all expressed their desire to fly the oppositin flag with Wetangula having launched his presidential bid.
Jubilee coalition is expected to hold a rally at Afraha Stadium this Saturday. Pundits say the rally is Jubilee's strategy to relaunch itself for the 2017 race.
