Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale now wants the embattled IEBC commissioners to quit office as they await for their send-off package.
Khalwale said Friday the IEBC bosses’ scenario isn't unique as there are many senior government officers who have had to wait for up to two years for their retirement packages after leaving office.
"We have more senior government officers whose retirement packages are paid between six months and two years after they have left and the IEBC commissioners' case is not, therefore, exceptional," said Khalwale as quoted by the Standard.
Khalwale said the commissioners' exit will ensure the 2017 elections are credible, adding that they should be given whatever send-off package they are demanding for.
According to him, it would be alright to even pay each commissioner Sh50 million if need be for the sake of making things move in the right direction.
"Kenyans must know that what is paid for anything depends on what you think is the value of what you are paying, in this case, we shall be paying for a level playground and peaceful elections," added the Senator.
The Ford-Kenya deputy party leader also dismissed claims that the commissioners could opt to stay put in the event the talks on their exit hit a brick wall.
The commissioners were expected to hold a meeting with government officials Friday to agree on their send-off package.
