Khalwale said Kibaki, who comes from Nyeri a county that makes up Central region was 71 when he was elected president in 2002.
Raila who is taking a fourth stab at the presidency is 71 years.
“We could have said the same of Kibaki in 2002. But we did not. You Mt Kenya leaders, cut this arrogance and respect other Kenyan communities,” Khalwale posted on his Twitter account on Thursday.
He was responding to remarks made by Jubilee leaders who on Wednesday called for Raila’s retirement over his advanced age.
The Jubilee MPs calling themselves UhuRuto Express team had accused Raila of using the courts to try and delay the elections telling him to retire in politics.
The leaders who spoke in Kiambu included John Njagi (Naivasha), Esther Gathogo (Ruiru), Nelson Gaichuhie (Subukia), Kamande Wambugu (Maragwa) Isaac Mwaura (nominated) and Mary Njoki (Nakuru woman representative).
“Uhuru is paying the people who have attained 70 years a monthly stipend and Raila should be considered as he heads to retirement,” Njagi said.
“The votes are with Wanjiku and not the courts. Irrespective of where the ballot papers will be printed, the NASA brigade should know we are ready for the election.”
The leaders unanimously said Jubilee will trounce NASA in the August election.
