Khalwale instead urged Omar to support Yasri Bajabir, who will vie for the seat on a Ford Kenya ticket.

Speaking at Khamisi Secondary School in Mombasa on Sunday, Khalwale said there was need to support each other in a bid to win different seats during the next general election.

“Politics is, scratch my back and I scratch yours. I am telling my friend Omar that his party should not field any candidate for the senatorial seat but instead support our Ford Kenya aspirant,” he said.

The senator also rubbished claims of Governor Hassan Joho being more popular than Cord co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula, and vowed to rally behind Omar as he seeks to unseat him (Joho) in 2017.

This comes after a section of Cord leaders criticized Joho for popularising the ODM Party ahead of the 2017 polls, saying his aim should be to seek votes for the entire coalition.
