Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has told Deputy President William Ruto to quit Jubilee and join the opposition as 2022 continues to beckon.
Khalwale on Sunday said Ruto represents the majority of poor Kenyans since the DP himself came from a humble background.
The outspoken former Ikolomani MP said Ruto's mother spent most of her time making local brew which she sold to raise money to take care of and educate her family.
He said President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga, on the other hand, come from rich families adding that the two do not represent the interest of majority poor Kenyans.
"[William] Ruto stand up. Your mother used to sell local brew and you yourself used to sell chicken," he said in Kakamega.
"I am the son of a changaa brewer from Malinya. Ruto rise. [Moses] Wetangula is the son of a woman who used to sell local brew in Kabuchai. Come we join hands, Raila and Uhuru are sons from rich families. Let's stand in one side. There's no way they can defeat us."
Khalwale is among opposition leaders who are against the Uhuru-Raila union as well the proposed amendment to the Constitution meant to create more senior positions in government.
He is also among leaders who heavily criticised Raila following the ouster of Wetangula from his prestigious Senate Minority Leader position.
