Reacting to the imprisonment of former South Korean leader Park Geun Hye over graft on Friday, Khalwale stressed on the need for Kenya to adopt the move, terming it as likely to be effective.

He proposed tough legal penalties for Kenyans implicated in corruption, noting that jail terms should be applied on political leaders found guilty of stealing public coffers.

''There can be no short cut for Kenya. We must learn from successful nations. Just jail our thieving politicians!'' he said in a tweet.

The former President was handed a 24 year jail term after being found guilty of engaging in a graft deal worth over 23 billion shillings.

She was further ordered to pay an 18 billion fine.

Kenya, on the other hand, is yet to make any major step in her anti-corruption graft, with some of her leading mega scandals, despite landing on the relevant desks, yet to be wholly addressed and the culprits punished.

These include the multi-billion shilling Euro-bond and the recent National Youth Saga, most of which are said to have been masterminded by the political class.
