Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has devised a new way to reach out to the electorate in a bid to win the county's governor seat.

Unlike the tact of using rallies as employed by incumbent Wycliffe Oparanya, Khalwale has resorted to conducting door-to-door campaigns deep in the villages.

The senator has been conducting the campaigns in the governor’s backyard and attracting crowds that demonstrate a substantive backing against Oparanya.

In most of the rallies, Khalwale makes an entrance being carried by a volunteer male supporter as they go through cheering crowds.

The senator has further moved to use his art of bullfighting a notch higher, sponsoring a large number of match-days in his Ikolomani and Shinyalu backyards.

The tact seems to be paying off.

On Wednesday, while Khalwale was in Mumias East, a woman emerging from the mammoth could not hide her joy as she ran to the senator and hugged him for as long it could hold.

Oparanya is seeking to defend the seat on an ODM ticket while the senator will be battling on a Ford Kenya ticket, both campaigning for the NASA flagbearer Raila Odinga.
