Bungoma gubernatorial hopeful on ODM party ticket Alfred Khang'ati has rubbished claims by Senator Moses Wetangula that he is a Jubilee sympathizer.
Speaking in Bungoma town, Khang'ati maintained that he was firmly in support of Opposition coalition NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga.
Earlier on Monday, Wetangula accused Jubilee of backrolling Khang'ati's political activities, in a move aimed at scuttling NASA votes in the County.
The former lawmaker has since dismissed the allegations as "baseless.".
“So the cheap propaganda Ford Kenya are alleging that oh I have no money... Are they my wife to know if I don’t have money to run? I could not just start from anywhere to vie for governor if I did not have money. That is stupidity,” he said.
“In fact, I say this so that they may feel it in their hearts — the money that I used when I was cleared by IEBC to set up campaigns and rallies, was given to me by Raila. And if they want to confirm, they can go to ODM offices on Capitol Hill in Nairobi [and] they will find my signature against huge amounts of money I was given,” he added.
Khang'ati is seeking to unseat the incumbent governor Ken Lusaka of Jubilee Party.
Ford Kenya has fielded businessman Wycliffe Wangamati, who has been earmarked as a frontrunner.
Pundits have warned that should Khang'ati and Wangamati go to the ballot separately, they could hand Lusaka an easy win during the forthcoming polls.
