Addressing the press at his office in Machakos town on Tuesday, Kiala said he no longer sits in cabinet meetings and therefore, could not give ideas on operations within the government.

“I no longer sit in cabinet meetings and am denied opportunities in giving ideas and running the county government, I only write letters to Governor Alfred Mutua which are never responded to,” said Kiala.

According to Kiala, his stiff stand against fighting corruption in the government is the reason why he had been sidelined by the governor together with his cabinet.

He accused Mutua of protecting corrupt leaders within the government, you cannot succeed in fighting corruption if the government’s top leadership glorifies the graft,” said Kiala.

Kiala said the only thing he can do as the deputy governor is to whistle blow.

He said public funds and resources need to be protected and therefore, national government agencies should investigate the county government’s leadership starting with the top to ensure sanity among the residents.

Kiala said residents should be given a comprehensive report on inventory of all the vehicles and machinery belonging to the government which had been procured using public funds and be told whether their log books are in county government or individuals’ names.

The Machakos government secretary and director of communications Mutinda Mwanzia who spoke to this writer on the phone disputed the claims.

He said the deputy governor was playing politics.
