Machakos deputy governor Bernard Kiala has hit out at governor Alfred Mutua for allegedly failing to consult locals  and other leaders on key issues affecting the county.

The deputy governor claims that Mutua did not consult anyone stating that he ought to have sought the views of the people.

Kiala  while lauding the recognition of the heroes, accused Mutua of doing things without involving the county and the people.

“Mutua should have sought locals and other leader’s views before going on to erect the statutes,” he said on Monday during a briefing with journalists in Machakos town.

Kiala said that the constitution provides and encourages for public participation in leadership and governance of counties.

The deputy governor also wants Mutua to reveal the source of money used to erect the statues. He said that the county assembly and executive did not approve any budget for the project.

Kiala says that Mutua’s failure to involve the people in his leadership is against the constitution.

Meanwhile, 46 members of the Machakos county assembly have appended signatures to impeach governor Mutua.

The MCAs accuse Mutua of abuse of office, integrity issues and failure to engage the public in county matters as they key reasons to impeach the governor.

The MCAs led by assembly deputy speaker Nathaniel Nganga claim that Mutua had failed to adhere to the constitution provisions on public participation.

They also accuse Mutua of not seeking their consent when erecting statues for Kamba political heroes Paul Ngei, Muindi Mbingu and Mulu Mutisya.

The impeachment motion will be presented to the assembly House Business Committee later today.

Last week Mutua claimed that the impeachment motion against him is a plot by the MCAs to extort money from him claims the MCAs have vehemently refuted.
