Kiala says that an overhaul of security will put an end to rising crime being reported in some parts of the county.

Speaking to this writer on phone, the deputy governor observed that security is deteriorating in most parts of the county.

He noted that most security officers have stayed for more than five years at their deployment stations.

“The only way to address rising crime in Machakos is by overhauling security system and transferring officers who have overstayed at their stations to other areas,” said the deputy governor on Saturday.

Kiala also asked law enforcers to educate locals on security measures like Nyumba Kumi. He claimed that many locals are not aware of the security measures like the Nyumba Kumi.

The deputy governor spoke in relation to an incident where five guards were allegedly murdered by armed criminals at Mitaboni market in Kathiani on Thursday morning.

Four other guards survived the attack and are receiving treatment as police launch search for the killers.

Several leaders have condemned the Mitaboni attack with calls to improve security in the area.

On Friday Governor Alfred Mutua held a security crisis meeting that was attended by county top security officers where he asked the officials to urgently address instances of insecurity being reported in some parts of the county.
