Machakos county Deputy Governor Bernard Kiala has called on the national government to equip farmers with knowledge and skills to ensure food security and creation of jobs.
Speaking on Tuesday in Ndalani Ward, Yatta sub-county, during a training programme on modern farming methods, Kiala said the Agricultural sector is the backbone of the Kenyan economy and should be funded enough to increase agricultural production.
"With the Agricultural Sector being the key driver of Kenya's Economy, our people need to be well equipped with knowledge and skills that are aimed at increasing agricultural yields for the purpose of ensuring food security, wealth and job creation," he said.
The Deputy governor further lauded The East Africa Seed Company for supporting the training programme that looks to educate farmers matters agriculture.
