Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has hit out at his deputy governor Bernard Kiala accusing him of seeking sympathy of locals by spreading false and malicious information about his government.
Governor Mutua claims that Kiala is working hard to undermine his government.
Speaking to reporters after opening the 2nd United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) cultural celebrations in Machakos on Thursday, Mutua claimed that Kiala had embarked on a smear campaign to tarnish his government.
“I am not going to allow some few people to tarnish my government for their own personal gain,” he said.
Mutua said that claims of misappropriation of funds being spread by Kiala and his allies are baseless.
He said that his government has adhered to all directives of management of resources.
“Kiala and others are concerned about 2017 and the only way they think they will win is by tarnishing my name,” he said.
The deputy governor on Thursday had accused Mutua of allegedly diverting Sh300 million from the Social Welfare Fund to other projects without consulting.
Kiala further claimed that Mutua cannot account to public resources given to the county.
Kiala has on several occasions differed with his boss.
The deputy governor has since declared interest to unseat Mutua in next year’s elections.
