Machakos County Deputy Governor Bernard Kiala has said he will not retaliate after Embakasi police impounded his personal assistant's car, for replacing its official number plate with a civilian one.
Speaking in Machakos Town on Tuesday, Kiala claimed that the move to impound his car is among the many plans by the county government to bring him down, adding that he will not retaliate.
The deputy governor however refuted claims of using the vehicle for unofficial business and being summoned by police to record a statement regarding the matter, stating that he was ready to do so if need arises.
"I am not shocked that my personal assistant's vehicle was impounded since I am used to these things. I will not retaliate since this is a plan to pin me down politically, but they will not succeed,” said Kiala.
The deputy governor said it is not a crime to replace the official number plate with a civilian one as government officials do it all the time for security reasons.
"Switching official number plates to civilian ones is common among government officials and it has never been considered a crime since it is done for security reasons,” said Kiala.
