Kiambaa Member of Parliament (MP) Paul Koinange has asked Deputy President William Ruto to stop worrying on whether the Mt Kenya region will back his 2022 presidential bid or not.

Koinange says that the region made a promise to support DP Ruto and that is not going to change.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, Koinange asked the DP to support President Uhuru Kenyatta’s development legacy knowing that his support in 2022 is intact.

He urged the DP to ignore propaganda being peddled out by some politicians and political analysts who are doubting whether Mt Kenya will support him or not.

“There is nothing for DP Ruto to worry about because we (Mt Kenya) will keep the promise we made,” he said on Wednesday.

Koinange, who is also the chairman of the Parliamentary committee on security, appealed to politicians to tone down on 2022 succession debate and work for Kenyans.

He said that the country is slowly being tuned into an election mode, a situation he warned is bad for economy.

The MP urged politicians to work first adding that politics should be played out later.

There are claims that Mt Kenya might not honour the promise it made to back Ruto in 2022.

This comes as DP Ruto strategizes ahead of the much anticipated 2022 polls.

The DP has been meeting politicians across the country in what political analyst’s term as a move to solidify his support base ahead of the 2022 general election.
