Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has directed sub-county administrators to deal with rising cases of illicit brewing.

Speaking on Friday at Thika town, the Governor said that illicit brewing should be dealt with accordingly, adding that the brewers should not be allowed to cause havoc in the county.

“I have directed all sub-county administrators to deal with illicit makers and distributors in the respective areas,” said Kabogo.

The Governor observed that illicit alcohol has in the past resulted to deaths and left other people maimed for life, further noting that his government will not tolerate those who make and sell the illicit drink.

The county boss on the same note asked the national government to chip in and arrest all those involved.

Kabogo also directed all bar owners to adhere to the outlined regulations, noting that some outlets open before the stipulated time.

He said that those found to be contravening the regulations will be arrested and charged in the court of law.

The county chief further called on the public to join hands in the fight against alcoholism, saying it has consumed and led to the fall of many families.

“We want to save many families that risk collapsing because of alcoholism and related issues,” said the Governor.

Kabogo urged local leaders to spearhead sensitization campaigns that will help curb alcoholism and drug abuse.
