The Kiambu district hospital has partnered with the Aga Khan University hospital for improved laboratory services.
The institution's superintendent David Kariuki said the collaboration will be beneficial to patients since their samples will be tested at a subsidised rate.
“We are now well equipped with reagents and no patient will be sent outside for laboratory tests. The partnership is to just increase efficiency of our services to our patients,” Kariuki said.
He added that the funds they get from the county government and the money paid by patients is ploughed back into the hospital to see that everything runs smoothly.
Kariuki said that they have placed notices in all strategic places within the hospital informing patients against being sent for sample tests and medication outside the facility.
He disagreed with claims that Kiambu hospitals are experiencing a drug shortage due to the reduction of funds allocated to the county until they account for their budget.
He said that the hospital has enough drugs but noted that the major problem is diabetes and cancer drugs, which are expensive for most patients.
“Being a public hospital, we intend to offer quality services and ensure all patients are satisfied by how they are attended to,” he added.
