The Kiambu County assembly has today been recalled for a special sitting to debate and pass a supplementary budget following wrangles that have been experienced recently in the county.
According to Joseph Murugami, the Limuru East ward MCA, the sitting has been called for the purposes of the shortages of facilities in the different departments of the county government which has led to numerous go-slows and demonstrations recently.
Murugami said the MCAs have no bad intention of embezzling public funds, adding that each time they want to pass any public interest bill or motion they consult the residents of Kiambu.
“We have no hidden agenda as it is alleged by some people in this," the MCA said.
"We are just after seeing the comfort of our people and as you can see the county is in tatters and we need to approve some funds immediately for the work to be done. This is just supplementary and nothing more is gong on.”
Among other things expected to dominate the debates in the assembly are the approval of the purchase of 50 vehicles for the county officials who have been operating in old vehicles, the county lawmaker said.
The county hospitals are also in the list of the today’s beneficiaries after the sitting considering there is a shortage of the facilities in the health institutions, which the county is in control of.
Over Sh100 million is set to be approved today in the special sitting, according to the MCA.
